Brand History

Fendi
The dynamic Fendi family of Rome, Italy, has built a successful fashion business for three generations. Newly married Edoardo and Adele Fendi opened a small leather goods shop and fur workshop on via del Plebiscito, in Rome, in 1925. Their skilled workmanship and hight quality materials made their handbags and fur items successful immediately.
By 1932, the Fendis expanded to a new workshop and store in Via Veneto. The next generation of 5 sisters began to join their parents in the business in 1946. Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla and Alda each brought different talents and interests to invigorate Fendi products.
By 1964, Fendi had continued to grow and opened, on the elegant via Borgognona, the first of many Fendi shops. The following year Fendi bagan working with young designer Karl Lagerfeld, who gradually changed the modern concept of fur in fashion. His designs called for light, soft, and easy-to-wear garments for women. Fendi experimented with old and new techniques for fur in various colors, tanning methods, and combinations to become a leader in the fur world today. Fendi launched its first couture collection designs by Karl Lagerfeld in 1966. Fendi handbags weee first brought to New York by the president of Bloomingdale's store, in 1968. That year, too, Fendi expanded their presence in the Japanese market, and kept growing, trought the 1970s and the 1980s.
Step by step, this talented family continues to bring important fashion to the world stage.
